James Miles  

James Miles,
Managing Director (Co-Founder)

James Miles was born in Hong Kong and attended school and university in the UK. He started his career with Jardine Fleming Investment Management in Hong Kong in 1991, before becoming an equities analyst and strategist with Asia Equity (which later became Banque Paribas and then BNP Paribas). He moved to London in 1997 and left banking in March 2000 to set up Liv-ex.

 
 
 
 
 

Justin Gibbs,
Sales & Marketing Director (Co-Founder)

Justin Gibbs was born in Melbourne and attended school in Australia and the UK and university in Australia (BEc). He started his banking career with Asia Equity in London in 1994 as an institutional salesman, eventually running the UK Asian-facing client base for BNP Paribas. He left banking in March 2000 to set up Liv-ex with James Miles.

 
 
 
 
 

Anthony Maxwell,
Director - Head of Exchange

Anthony Maxwell was born in South Africa and brought up in France before moving to the UK aged 12. After leaving university, he worked for the Foreign Office in Geneva and the International Federation of Wines and Spirits in Paris. He then worked for John Armit Wines for eight years, running their trading department and private client sales department before joining Liv-ex in 2005.

 
 
 
 
 

Neil Taylor,
Head of Data and Systems

Neil Taylor was born in the UK and attended schools and university in the south of England. A graduate in Business and International Marketing, Neil spent his formative years working for a technology holding company, expanding their operations into Africa and India. He then worked in engineering and medical industries in the UK and USA before identifying emerging trends in the use of data for decision making. Neil subsequently joined Ordnance Survey and spent seven years developing his knowledge of data analytics, licensing and services, before joining Liv-ex in July 2013.

 
 
 
 
 

Ashley Hopkins,
Head of Operations

Ashley Hopkins was born in London and attended schools in the UK, Holland, and the USA. He started his career via a YTS fast track scheme at Charles Kendall Freight, later running their high tech supply chain division before the age of 22. In 2006 he moved to Nautilus INC., a NYSE company, and ran their International supply chain, before moving to Segen - a leading edge renewable energy distributor and installer in the UK. Ashley joined the team at Liv-ex in 2012 to develop Vine and the post-trade settlement on the exchange.

 
 
 
 
 

Simon Cottee,
Head of Finance

Simon studied Law with French at University, before qualifying as an accountant with Touche Ross. After working for Bankers Trust and Credit Suisse, in London and Paris, he worked in Regulation for eight years, including a two year secondment to the European Commission in Brussels. His interest in wine led him to join Liv-ex in 2010.

 
 
 
 
 

Nigel Johnson-Hill,
Non-executive Chairman

After a career in finance, in London and Hong Kong, Nigel now owns a small fine wine business. He is also chairman of a City fund-management company and has a keen interest in local and national politics. Nigel is a founding director of Liv-ex.

 
 
 
 
 

Sir Brian Williamson,
Non-executive Director

Sir Brian established the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange in the 1980s and led the development of the exchange's electronic trading platform in the mid-1990s. He is a past director of HSBC bank and Euronext NYSE among others. He is currently a trustee of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust; Chairman of MT Fund Management; a Member of the Council of St George’s House, Windsor and a director of the Politeia think-tank.

 
 
 
 
 

Toby Courtauld,
Non-executive Director

After graduating from Cambridge University, Toby joined property company MEPC plc in 1991. He left MEPC in April 2002 to join Great Portland Estates as chief executive, a position he still holds today.

 
 
 
 
 

Greg Lockwood,
Non-executive Director

Greg joined Liv-ex as a non-executive Director in September 2014. Having worked for UBS in corporate finance and private equity, Greg went on to found Piton Capital, the specialist venture capital investor in marketplaces and exchanges. While at UBS Capital he founded their early stage venture activities in Europe and made investments in sector-leading companies such as Betfair.
